Sports are Key to Holistic Development: Vice Chancellor Dr. Danda Raji Reddy

“Sports play a vital role in holistic personality development, and students should integrate sports into their daily lives,” said Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. Danda Raji Reddy. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the fourth Inter-Collegiate Sports, Games, Cultural, and Literary Meet 2024-25, which commenced on January 18 at the Horticultural College in Rajendranagar. The event will run for three days.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Dr. Raji Reddy emphasized the university’s commitment to giving equal importance to academics and sports. He assured that necessary facilities are being established in all constituent colleges to support student activities. Highlighting the benefits of sports, he said they enhance the ability to face life’s challenges, foster resilience, and develop a competitive spirit.

The Vice Chancellor noted that many successful individuals in society have a background in sports, which helps build character, teamwork, and leadership qualities. He urged students to approach competitions with a spirit of sportsmanship, transcending jealousy and rivalry.

Dr. Raji Reddy also underscored the importance of preserving Telangana’s cultural heritage by training students in traditional arts such as Bathukamma, Kolatam, and Perini Shivatandavam dances. He stressed that cultural programs, alongside sports, contribute to mental happiness and physical well-being.

Encouraging students to focus on skill development, he described it as the foundation for a bright future. He advised students to cultivate curiosity, innovate, and pursue opportunities in horticulture, including launching startups to create employment and achieve financial success.

The event began with a welcome address by Rajendranagar Horticultural College Associate Dean Dr. P. Prashanth. A total of 251 students from five colleges are competing in 20 sports and 18 cultural events.

The inauguration was attended by Registrar Dr. A. Bhagwan, Dean Dr. M. Rajasekhar, DR Dr. Lakshminarayana, Associate Deans Dr. P. Prashanth (Rajendranagar), Dr. J. China Nayak (Malayal), and Dr. Pidigam Saidaiah (Mojerla), Zonal Head Dr. Suresh Reddy, along with professors, scientists, and students.
