Minister Tummala Inaugurates 17th Grand Nursery Mela in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, January 30: In a major initiative to enhance urban greenery, State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced the government’s plan to promote terrace gardens through subsidies. The move aims to encourage city residents to grow plants and vegetables in available spaces, fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment.

The minister made this announcement while inaugurating the 17th Grand Nursery Mela at Necklace Road People’s Plaza on Thursday. The All India Horticulture Show, organized as part of the mela, showcases a wide range of plants, seeds, and gardening essentials from across India and abroad.

Speaking at the event, Minister Tummala emphasized the importance of greenery in urban life. He urged people to utilize every free space in their homes for gardening, highlighting its role in stress relief and overall well-being. “Greenery is essential for human survival, and urban residents should make an effort to grow as many plants as possible,” he said. He encouraged the adoption of roof gardens and vertical gardens, which can help mitigate pollution and enhance the quality of life in cities.

Drawing a comparison between urban and rural lifestyles, the minister pointed out that people engaged in agriculture tend to be healthier. “Those who farm rarely suffer from ailments, while a sedentary lifestyle contributes to various health issues,” he remarked. He also praised efforts to bring rare plants and seeds from different parts of the world, providing a unique opportunity for gardening enthusiasts at the nursery fair.

Nursery Mela Incharge Khalid Ahmed shared details about the event, stating that the mela features 150 stalls offering a variety of flowering plants, kitchen garden essentials, medicinal plants, and ornamental flora. The exhibition also includes gardening tools and materials sourced from multiple states, catering to plant lovers and enthusiasts.

Horticulture Officer Babu and other officials also participated in the program, reinforcing the government’s commitment to promoting urban horticulture and sustainable living.
