Hyderabad, Feb 1: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reacted sharply to the Union Budget 2025, presented today by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he delivered a scathing critique of the budget, emphasizing that it was akin to “applying a band-aid to bullet wounds.” His statement highlighted his dissatisfaction with the government’s economic approach, particularly in the face of global and domestic challenges.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the budget reflected the government’s “bankrupt thinking” and a lack of vision to address the pressing economic issues confronting the nation. He wrote, “The budget is like a band-aid on bullet wounds. The world is facing instability, and in such times, India needs to strengthen its economic position. However, the government is engaging in bankrupt thinking, failing to provide comprehensive solutions to stimulate growth, create jobs, and support the vulnerable sections of society.”

Expanding his criticism, Rahul Gandhi pointed out that the budget lacked innovative measures to tackle inflation, unemployment, and economic inequality. He argued that the government’s policies have consistently favored the affluent while neglecting the needs of the common people, farmers, and small businesses. According to him, the budget did not present any substantial reforms to boost the manufacturing sector, improve healthcare infrastructure, or enhance educational opportunities.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered a contrasting view, praising the budget and calling it a reflection of the aspirations of India’s 140 crore citizens. He highlighted the government’s focus on inclusive growth, infrastructure development, and technological advancements, asserting that the budget would pave the way for a stronger and more resilient economy. The Prime Minister emphasized that the budget aims to empower every section of society, from rural communities to urban entrepreneurs, fostering economic progress across the nation.

The divergent reactions from Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi underscore the deep political divide over the government’s fiscal policies. While the opposition criticizes the budget for its perceived shortcomings, the ruling party defends it as a comprehensive plan designed to drive India’s growth trajectory in the coming years.
