Delta Flight Overturns During Landing at Toronto Pearson Airport; 18 Injured

Toronto, February 17,2025

On Monday, February 17, 2025, Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, experienced a catastrophic landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft, en route from Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, crashed upon landing, overturning on the runway. All 80 occupants—76 passengers and 4 crew members—survived the incident, with 18 individuals sustaining injuries that required hospitalization; fortunately, none were critical.

Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft encountered turbulent conditions during its final approach. Passenger John Nelson recounted that the plane “hit the ground hard, skidded sideways, and flipped over,” leading to a fireball on the left side. Despite the severity of the crash, emergency personnel efficiently evacuated all passengers before the aircraft caught fire.

The incident prompted an immediate suspension of operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport, with arrivals and departures halted temporarily. The airport resumed operations later that day, with ongoing support for affected passengers.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with both the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board involved. Preliminary reports indicate that weather conditions were clear at the time of the incident, leaving the exact cause undetermined.

This event marks a significant incident in aviation safety, highlighting the critical importance of emergency preparedness and response in ensuring passenger survival during unforeseen circumstances.
