Medak Collector Rahul Raj Cycles 20 Km to Bus Stand, Returns by RTC Bus, Engages with Passengers
In a rare display of hands-on governance, Medak Collector Rahul Raj once again set an example by stepping out of his office and into the everyday life of the people he serves. Just days after inspecting agricultural fields, the IAS officer surprised locals on Sunday morning by choosing an unconventional mode of travel—cycling 20 kilometers along with his wife, Sreeja, to the Ramayampet bus stand.
The sight of the district’s top official pedaling through the roads was enough to turn heads. Dressed in casual attire, Rahul Raj and his wife set out early in the morning, embracing the spirit of sustainable and active travel. As they reached the bustling Ramayampet bus stand, passengers and shopkeepers were taken aback by the Collector’s unexpected visit.
His primary mission was to inspect passenger facilities and assess the overall condition of the bus stand. The Depot Manager, Surekha, was quick to arrive at the location after hearing about the Collector’s visit. Wasting no time, Rahul Raj went on a detailed inspection of the premises, ensuring that essential services such as drinking water and sanitation were properly maintained. Expressing concern over cleanliness, he directed the officials to ensure that garbage was disposed of regularly and that passengers were provided with a hygienic environment.
However, what made his visit truly stand out was his decision to experience the bus services firsthand. After completing the inspection, he and his wife boarded an RTC bus like any other passenger, purchasing tickets and taking their seats among the crowd. As the bus made its way back to Medak, Rahul Raj engaged with commuters, asking about their travel experiences, common inconveniences, and suggestions for improvement. Many passengers were pleasantly surprised to find the district Collector sitting beside them, keenly listening to their concerns.
Upon reaching Medak, the Collector continued his inspection at the local bus stand. Observing the infrastructure and passenger facilities, he instructed the authorities to implement necessary improvements, reinforcing his commitment to bettering public services.
Rahul Raj’s initiative resonated deeply with the public, with many praising his approachable and action-oriented leadership. His willingness to step into the shoes of the common man, not just symbolically but through real-life experiences, highlighted his dedication to governance that is both inclusive and accountable.
This gesture not only reinforced the importance of accessibility in administration but also sent a strong message about the significance of leading by example. For the residents of Medak, it was a refreshing reminder that leadership is not just about authority, but also about empathy, understanding, and active participation in public welfare.
