Chennai’s Avadi Police Introduce Air-Conditioned Helmets for Traffic Personnel

Chennai: In a bid to provide relief to traffic police personnel who endure extreme heat while managing city traffic, the Avadi City Police have introduced air-conditioned helmets on a pilot basis. The initiative, aimed at enhancing the comfort and efficiency of officers, has been launched with the support of a private firm under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

A Technological Breakthrough in Police Gear

Manufactured by a Telangana-based company, these helmets are equipped with a mini air-conditioning unit positioned in the front. The cooling system is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which offer a standby time of about eight hours. Despite the inclusion of this advanced technology, the helmets remain lightweight, ensuring ease of movement for officers during long working hours.

Each helmet has been designed to maintain a cool internal temperature, reducing heat stress and improving the overall working conditions for traffic police personnel who spend prolonged periods under direct sunlight.

CSR Initiative and Costs

This innovative initiative has been fully funded by a Chennai-based private company as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Each helmet costs approximately ₹20,000, and the initiative is currently being tested on a pilot basis in Avadi City.

If the results prove to be effective and beneficial, authorities may consider expanding the initiative to other police departments across the city and beyond.
