160 Applicants for 8 Director Posts in Telangana Genco & Transco; Interviews Next Week

Hyderabad, April 4: Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (Genco) and Transmission Corporation (Transco) have issued a notification to fill eight vacant director posts, and interviews for the positions are set to begin next week. The posts have remained vacant for over a year and are currently being managed by in-charge directors.

There has been an overwhelming response to the notification, with over 160 applications received for the eight posts, averaging 20 applicants per post. According to officials, the posts have attracted high interest, with current chief engineers, chief general managers, and even some present directors vying for the top roles.

Sources reveal that several aspirants have reached out to political leaders, including ministers, MLAs, and even central leaders in Delhi, in an attempt to secure the coveted positions. However, energy department officials clarified that only three candidates will be shortlisted for each post based on their performance in the interview, experience, and subject expertise.

The eight posts include five in Genco—Director (Hydel), Director (HR & IR), Director (Coal and Logistics), and Director (Finance and Commercial)—and three in Transco—Director (Grid and Transmission Management), Director (Projects), and Director (Finance).

Notably, directors serving in the Southern and Northern power distribution companies were removed in January 2024 after the Congress government took charge. Since then, the government has continued with interim arrangements for these posts.

Though the notification for the director posts was issued in late January and early February 2024, the selection process was delayed due to heavy lobbying and political pressure. After months of interim management, the interviews are now scheduled to move forward.

Sources further added that the new directors will be appointed for a two-year term, with eligibility for up to two one-year extensions. Candidates must be below the age of 62 to qualify for appointment.

The appointments are expected to bring much-needed stability and leadership to the state’s power sector after a prolonged period of administrative limbo.
