Abhishek Sharma’s 141 Powers SRH to Victory, But Father Rajkumar Sharma Wants Him to Finish Matches
Hyderabad, April 13:
Abhishek Sharma, the young and dynamic batter for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), lit up the Uppal Stadium with a sensational 141-run knock against Punjab, helping his team secure a memorable win. The innings not only marked his highest IPL score but also placed him among the top individual scorers in a run chase in IPL history.
Despite the incredible performance, Abhishek revealed that his father, Rajkumar Sharma, who is also his first coach, wasn’t fully satisfied with the innings.
“Scoring a century in front of my father was very special. But he wanted me to stay at the crease till the end. That’s why, despite this being my best IPL score, it didn’t completely please him,” Abhishek said after the match.
Abhishek’s innings was all the more special as it unfolded in the presence of his parents, turning it into a proud moment for the family. However, it also came with a familiar fatherly critique.
Rajkumar Sharma, who has closely guided his son’s cricketing journey from the beginning, shared that he often signals Abhishek from the stands during matches—suggesting strategies, shot selections, and game awareness.
“I always tell him not to worry about form. It’s a part of any cricketer’s career. In previous matches, he was either run out or missed out on big scores. But this time, he played with confidence and led SRH to victory,” Rajkumar said.
“He had told me before the match that he would score big to help his team win. I’m happy he did, and I believe he will play more aggressively in upcoming games.”
Abhishek’s performance is being hailed as one of the finest this IPL season, and his consistency at the top order is proving vital for SRH’s campaign. With a supportive family behind him—especially a coach-father who pushes him to do better—Abhishek Sharma looks set to scale even greater heights in the days to come.
