Hyderabad: K. Kavitha, the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and former Member of Parliament (MP), has submitted her phones to the Directorate of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in response to the summons issued by them on 20 March 2023.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Jogender, Assistant Director, Headquarter Investigation Unit 2(3)(2) Directorate of Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi, Kavitha stated that she was submitting her phones “without prejudice to my right and contentions and larger contention whether a women’s phone can be intruded, in the teeth of her right to privacy.”

Kavitha also mentioned in the letter that she believed the accusations made against her in November 2022 were “malafide, misconceived, and prejudicial” as she was not even summoned or asked any questions at that time.

The former MP further added that the false accusations were leaked to the public, leading to a political slugfest, and her political adversaries have been using them to defame her and her party.

Kavitha also expressed her disappointment that the Enforcement Directorate, a premier agency, was “becoming a privy and party to these acts and sabotaging and sacrificing its sacrosanct duty of free and fair investigation at the altar of vested political interest.”

Kavitha concluded the letter by stating that she was submitting her phones to dispel any adverse impression that the agency was trying to create.

It is worth noting that Kavitha was called by the agency for the first time in March 2023, and the phones were submitted as part of the ongoing investigation in pursuance of PMLA/SUMMON/HIU2/2023/1557 dated 20.03.2023.
