DISCOM Cracks Down on Low-Hanging Cables in Hyderabad
Special Drive Launched to Ensure Public Safety

Hyderabad, May 23:
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) has launched a special drive to remove low-hanging cables on electricity poles, citing serious safety concerns for the public and electricity workers.

Despite repeated warnings and meetings with internet and cable operators, the issue of loosely hanging wires on electricity poles—often at dangerous heights below 15 feet—has persisted. These cables pose a significant risk of electric shocks and have already led to multiple accidents and injuries. They also hinder the work of linemen and other electricity personnel during routine maintenance and repairs.

Taking matters into its own hands due to the negligence of some cable operators, the DISCOM has now formed special teams to inspect and remove such cables across the city. Officials are working in coordination with local authorities and the traffic police to ensure smooth execution of the drive.

“Our priority is public safety. We are committed to eliminating the threat posed by these low-hanging wires. Strict action will be taken against operators who fail to cooperate,” said a senior TSSPDCL official.

To provide a long-term solution, DISCOM has advised all cable service providers to shift their cables underground using proper ducts or ensure they are installed at a minimum safe height above the ground.

The initiative comes as part of TSSPDCL’s broader efforts to enhance safety standards and prevent accidents linked to unauthorized or poorly maintained cable infrastructure on power poles.
