Recognition for research on Juvenile Justice System in Telangana

Hyderabad, July 9, 2025:
In a moment of pride for Warangal and the legal fraternity of Telangana, Kancha Prasad, a distinguished judicial officer and native of Rangashaipet in Warangal, has been awarded a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Law by Kakatiya University. The honor was officially conferred upon him on Monday  in recognition of his commendable research work titled “Juvenile Justice System in India: A Study with Reference to Functioning of Child Care Institutions in Telangana State.”

Prasad’s thesis focuses on the effectiveness, challenges, and operational aspects of child care institutions under the Juvenile Justice system, particularly within the state of Telangana. His research is being widely appreciated for its depth, relevance, and policy-level implications.

A well-respected figure in the judiciary, Kancha Prasad is currently serving as the 10th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Secunderabad, having recently been transferred from Jagtial district. Known for his integrity and commitment to justice, he has managed to balance his demanding role as a judicial officer with his academic pursuits—a rare and commendable feat.

He began his academic journey with an LL.B. degree from Kakatiya University, followed by a postgraduate LL.M. from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. His consistent dedication to the field of law, both in practice and research, sets a strong example for young legal professionals across the state.

His achievement has been warmly received by members of the legal community, academics, and residents of his hometown. Citizens of the 42nd Division, Rangashaipet, where he resides, have expressed immense pride and joy at his success. Many believe this milestone not only honors Prasad but also brings visibility and recognition to Warangal’s intellectual and academic potential.

Community members and colleagues have extended their heartfelt congratulations, with several urging for his elevation to higher judicial responsibilities in the near future, possibly the High Court bench.

On Monday, during the convocation ceremony of Kakatiya University, Telangana State Governor Jishnu Dev Varma conferred a Doctorate degree on Kancha Prasad, The prestigious academic honor was awarded in recognition of his research contributions in the field of law.
