Centre Approves Hyderabad–Bengaluru High-Speed Corridor as Part of Vision-2047

Hyderabad, July 10, 2025 – In a major infrastructure boost, the Central Government has greenlit the construction of a high-speed corridor between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in resolving years of delay over highway expansion plans. The project is a key component of the ambitious “Vision-2047” national highway master plan aimed at transforming India’s road network.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has appointed a consultancy firm through a tendering process to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Hyderabad–Bengaluru segment. An allocation of ₹12.63 crore has been made for this segment alone.

The proposed corridor will extend the ongoing high-speed route that currently connects Nagpur to Hyderabad, further stretching it down to Bengaluru. Together, these two segments — Nagpur–Hyderabad and Hyderabad–Bengaluru — form a continuous high-speed corridor traversing four states. The DPR preparation for the Nagpur–Hyderabad section has been allocated ₹14.99 crore.

The new corridor will span approximately 1,150 km, cutting across Nagpur (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (Telangana), Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The breakdown of the corridor’s route is as follows:

  • Telangana: 195 km
  • Andhra Pradesh: 260 km
  • Karnataka: 106 km

With an estimated total cost of ₹35,000 crore, the highway is designed to support travel speeds exceeding 120 km/h. Initially, the road will be built as a 6-lane expressway with future provision for expansion to 8 or even 12 lanes. Land acquisition will be carried out keeping in mind the potential for 12-lane widening.

Currently, the Hyderabad–Bengaluru stretch operates as a 4-lane highway, allowing average speeds of 80 km/h. However, frequent congestion, geometric deficiencies, and sharp curves have made large-scale upgrades to the existing road unfeasible. To overcome these challenges, the government has proposed a completely new greenfield alignment parallel to the current highway.

Survey work is set to commence shortly on both sides of the existing Hyderabad–Bengaluru highway. The survey will assess land availability, the presence of agricultural and forest zones, existing railway lines, and high-tension power corridors — all crucial for determining the final alignment of the corridor.

This high-speed expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease freight movement, and contribute to regional economic growth by improving connectivity between central and southern India.
