Tiger Sighting Scares Devotees on Srisailam Footpath in Nallamala Forest
Srisailam (Andhra Pradesh), February 11: Devotees undertaking the traditional foot journey to the holy shrine of Srisailam Temple had a tense and unforgettable experience after a tiger was spotted along the walking trail in the dense Nallamala forest.
The incident occurred near Peddacheruvu, close to the border of Dornala mandal in the Markapuram region, when a large tiger was seen lurking in the bushes by the roadside. The devotees, who were proceeding on foot chanting hymns in praise of Lord Mallanna (Lord Shiva), were taken by surprise when they noticed the big cat calmly observing its surroundings.

Eyewitnesses said the tiger was seen moving through the bushes with sharp, alert eyes, at one point appearing to lick or sniff the foliage along the roadside. The sudden sight of the wild animal triggered panic among the pilgrims, many of whom feared for their safety. However, despite the tense situation, the devotees maintained composure and refrained from running, understanding that sudden movements could provoke an attack.

Forest department officials had earlier issued advisories cautioning pilgrims about wildlife movement in the Nallamala forest, which is known for its tiger population. Fortunately, the devotees adhered to safety norms and stayed together without creating commotion. After observing the group for a few moments, the tiger quietly retreated into the forest without causing any harm.
Relieved devotees later resumed their journey, chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” and expressing gratitude to Lord Mallanna, believing divine grace had protected them from danger. Many described the incident as both frightening and spiritually profound — an experience they would never forget.

Forest officials once again urged devotees walking through the sanctuary area to remain vigilant, avoid travelling alone, move in groups, and strictly follow safety guidelines. They emphasized that the Nallamala forest is a protected wildlife habitat, and sightings of wild animals, including tigers, are possible.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
