Hyderabad, June 8:
The Telangana government has announced the construction of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Knowledge Centre in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore, with the aim of creating a world-class educational and knowledge hub for students and unemployed youth across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday inspected the proposed site near Lower Tank Bund, where the ambitious project will come up. He also visited the site of a new SC Hostel at Nimboli Adda in Kachiguda, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
The Ambedkar Knowledge Centre will be built with a cellar, ground floor, and ten additional floors. Equipped with study circles, digital libraries, conference halls, and advanced technological infrastructure, the centre is envisioned as a premier platform for learning, skill development, and career guidance.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said the centre would not merely be a building but a continuous educational platform aimed at empowering millions of students and job aspirants. He noted that children from economically weaker sections, including daily wage labourers, farmers, and small traders, often face financial hardships while pursuing coaching and education in Hyderabad.
To address these challenges, the government plans to provide free coaching facilities through the Knowledge Centre. Lessons delivered by leading faculty members from the Hyderabad headquarters will be digitally transmitted to Ambedkar Knowledge Centres proposed in every Assembly constituency across Telangana.
The state government has already sanctioned financial and administrative approvals for the project. An amount of Rs 5 crore has been released for the demolition of the existing Ambedkar Bhavan structure at the site to facilitate construction.
Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated that the government had earlier announced plans to establish Dr B.R. Ambedkar Knowledge Centres in all Assembly constituencies. The initiative is intended to enable students from poor, backward, marginalised, and middle-class families to access quality coaching and educational resources within their local areas, reducing the need to relocate to Hyderabad.
He said an integrated digital network would connect all the centres, allowing students throughout the state to access lectures and coaching sessions delivered by the best educators from the main Hyderabad facility.
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced the modernisation of the historic hostel at Nimboli Adda, Kachiguda, which has served generations of underprivileged students since the days of the undivided state. The facility will be transformed into a modern educational complex and renamed the Babu Jagjivan Ram Knowledge Centre.
Describing both projects as “modern temples of knowledge,” Bhatti Vikramarka said they would play a key role in improving educational opportunities and eliminating the coaching-related difficulties faced by unemployed youth.
He asserted that the government remains committed to building a welfare-oriented Telangana and ensuring equal access to education and employment opportunities for all sections of society.
Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and other public representatives accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister during the site inspections.
