Hyderabad, June 8:
The Southwest Monsoon officially entered Telangana on Monday, bringing much-awaited relief from the summer heat and raising hopes for a promising agricultural season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the monsoon entered the state through Jogulamba Gadwal district and is expected to advance further across Telangana in the coming days.
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the monsoon has made further progress into additional parts of the Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Weather conditions remain favorable for its continued advancement into the remaining parts of Telangana and neighboring states over the next two to three days.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across several districts of Telangana on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In addition, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in some southern and eastern districts during the same period.
Rainfall activity is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph in isolated areas across the state. However, the weather department indicated that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next three days.
For Hyderabad city, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds during the evening or night hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated locations in Suryapet and Rangareddy districts during the past 24 hours. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), the highest rainfall of 88.5 mm was registered at Mattampalle in Suryapet district. The state’s average rainfall for the day stood at 4.2 mm, slightly above the normal average of 3.7 mm.
The Southwest Monsoon season, which extends from June to September, is crucial for Telangana’s agriculture and water resources. The state receives a normal annual rainfall of 923.8 mm, of which nearly 80 percent, or 740.6 mm, is typically received during the monsoon season.
With the monsoon now setting in, farmers and residents across Telangana are expected to benefit from improved weather conditions and increased rainfall activity in the coming weeks.
