Bhatti Vikramarka Approves 1.621% Increase in Dearness Allowance; Focuses on Future Power Infrastructure and Monsoon Preparedness
Hyderabad, June 18: In a significant relief to employees and pensioners of Telangana’s power sector, Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has approved a 1.621 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), benefiting more than 70,000 employees, artisans, and pensioners associated with various power utilities in the state.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting held at Vidyut Soudha, the headquarters of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (GENCO), on Wednesday. The revised DA will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2026.
With the latest revision, the DA has been enhanced from 17.651 per cent to 19.272 per cent, resulting in an additional financial burden of approximately ₹9.35 crore per month on the state government. A total of 70,804 employees and pensioners working in the power sector are expected to benefit from the increase.
During the meeting, Bhatti Vikramarka reviewed the performance of the power sector and appreciated officials and employees for ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer season despite record-breaking demand. He noted that Telangana successfully met a peak power demand of 18,548 MW on March 27, the highest ever recorded in the state, without any disruption in supply.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted that the state maintained seamless electricity services even when power consumption touched an all-time high of 341 million units (MU) on March 13, 2026. He attributed this achievement to meticulous planning, efficient power management, and the dedicated efforts of power department personnel.
Looking ahead, Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to formulate a comprehensive long-term strategy to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure over the next decade. He emphasized that Telangana’s electricity demand is projected to witness substantial growth in the coming years and called for proactive planning to meet future requirements.

According to official projections, Telangana’s peak power demand is expected to rise to 34,137 MW by 2035-36, nearly double the present demand. Similarly, the state’s annual electricity requirement is estimated to increase to 152,626 million units (MU) during the same period. In view of this anticipated growth, he instructed officials to prepare a robust infrastructure expansion plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply and support the state’s industrial and economic development.
With the onset of the monsoon season, the Deputy Chief Minister also directed officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL), Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGNPDCL), and Telangana Transmission Corporation (TGTRANSCO) to remain on high alert. He instructed field-level engineers and maintenance teams to be fully prepared to tackle any power disruptions caused by heavy rains, thunderstorms, or strong winds.
Bhatti Vikramarka stressed that emergency response teams should act swiftly to restore electricity services whenever interruptions occur. He also directed officials to implement all necessary preventive measures to avoid power-related accidents and ensure public safety during adverse weather conditions.
Senior officials, including Naveen Mittal, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Jyoti Buddha Prakash, Krishna Bhaskar, Harish, Varun Reddy, Jitesh Patil, Sampath Kumar, and Latha Vinod, among others, attended the review meeting.
