Hyderabad, June 19: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday reiterated the state government’s commitment to transforming Telangana into the country’s premier education and sports hub, unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening education, skill development, and sports infrastructure.
Addressing a large gathering of students at LB Stadium in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister, along with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, launched the distribution of Young India student kits to 27.50 lakh students across the state. The duo also laid foundation stones for sports infrastructure projects in various districts.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said the establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools and the Young India Sports University reflects the government’s vision to bring revolutionary reforms in education and prepare future generations to excel in international sporting events, including the Olympics.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on employment, stating that the “AI storm” is leaving millions jobless worldwide. To address emerging challenges, the government has launched skill development programmes aimed at creating more employment opportunities for youth, particularly in blue-collar sectors.
He said special language training programmes in German and Japanese, along with English, have been introduced to help young people secure employment opportunities abroad. The government has also upgraded Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) and established a Skill University to equip students with industry-relevant skills.
Revanth Reddy urged students studying in social welfare institutions to aspire to become doctors, IAS and IPS officers, and political leaders. He called upon the youth to actively participate in the reconstruction and development of Telangana.
Criticising the previous BRS government, the Chief Minister alleged that education standards deteriorated during the past decade due to neglect. He said the previous administration failed to increase diet and cosmetic charges for students, while the present government addressed these issues immediately after assuming office.
He also claimed that several government schools were shut down during the previous regime and have now been reopened. Responding to criticism from opposition parties regarding the absence of a dedicated Education Minister, Revanth Reddy said he retained the education portfolio himself to personally oversee comprehensive reforms in the sector.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen public education, he said a pre-primary education system has been introduced in government schools to compete with private institutions. According to him, several government schools are now displaying “No Admission” boards due to increased demand for seats.
The Chief Minister noted that the state has allocated 8.5 percent of its budget to education, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the sector. He said the government is spending Rs 26,600 crore on education during the 2026-27 financial year, viewing it as an investment in future generations.
On the sports front, the Governor and Chief Minister administered an anti-drug pledge to students and launched projects aimed at improving sports infrastructure across Telangana at a total cost of Rs 50.73 crore.
Foundation stones were laid for the construction of mini stadiums and development of sports facilities in various districts with an investment of Rs 36.65 crore. They also inaugurated sports academies for boys and girls at Gachibowli and LB Stadium, developed at a cost of Rs 14.08 crore.
The initiatives, the Chief Minister said, are part of a long-term strategy to nurture talent, improve educational outcomes, and position Telangana as a national leader in both education and sports.
