Suriya’s New Avatar as a Street-Smart Cop Creates Buzz
The makers of director Jithu Madhavan’s much-anticipated film Scene, starring Suriya in the lead role, released a glimpse video introducing the actor as DSP Inbaraj on Monday. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 6, coinciding with the Deepavali festive season.
Sharing the video on his X account, Suriya wrote, “Hello Dear All, With love, DSP Inbaraj.”
The glimpse offers a look at Suriya in a distinctive police officer role, blending humour, attitude and unconventional behaviour. The character appears different from the stereotypical on-screen cop, adding to the curiosity surrounding the film.
Suriya’s DSP Inbaraj Brings Humour to a Crime Scene
The video opens with DSP Inbaraj arriving at a crime scene, where he is greeted by a constable named Sibi. Their interaction takes a humorous turn when Sibi becomes confused about whether to address the officer as “sir” or “anna”. Inbaraj eventually tells him to stick to “sir”.
As the two move through a crowd gathered outside the crime scene, Inbaraj asks the onlookers to maintain a “one-arm distance”. He questions Sibi about allowing a crowd to gather during the COVID period.
When Sibi offers to disperse the crowd, Inbaraj stops him, joking that crowds make it more entertaining to watch reels. He then instructs Sibi to ask those recording videos on their phones to shoot in a vertical format.
In another sequence, Inbaraj advises someone against smoking, warning about its potential impact on fertility. The humour continues when the officer himself is seen smoking a cigarette, highlighting the character’s contradictory and unpredictable nature.
Naslen Plays Antagonist Eeswaran
The makers have already introduced Naslen’s character, Eeswaran, as the film’s antagonist. The character reveal portrayed him as a “faceless, emotionless, inhuman predator”, suggesting a dark and menacing presence.
In one scene from the character video, Eeswaran tells someone, “Don’t be scared. I won’t kill you. Get the vehicle started.”
The contrast between Suriya’s unconventional, street-smart police officer and Naslen’s threatening antagonist has further raised expectations for the film.
Strong Cast and Technical Team
The film, produced by Zhagaram Studios, was tentatively referred to as Suriya 47 before its title was announced as Scene. The project went on floors with a traditional pooja ceremony in the city in December last year.
Suriya plays the lead role, while Nazriya Nazim is the female lead. Naslen, John Vijay and Anandaraj are also part of the cast, with Naslen playing a pivotal role as the antagonist.
The film features Vineeth Augustian as cinematographer and Sushin Shyam as music composer. Ashwini Kale is responsible for production design, Ajmal Sabu handles editing, and Chethan D Souza serves as the stunt choreographer.
The collaboration between Suriya and Jithu Madhavan has generated considerable anticipation among fans. With its unusual police character, dark antagonist and mix of humour and crime, Scene is among the films attracting attention ahead of its scheduled Deepavali release on November 6.
