Prakash Ambedkar proposes Hyderabad as the second capital of India

Hyderabad, April 14:

The Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), unveiled a 125-feet-high statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near Tank Band in Hyderabad on Friday. The occasion marked the birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution and was attended by KCR, his cabinet Ministers, and special invitee, Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of B.R. Ambedkar.

KCR declared that the statue was not just a monument but a symbol of revolution, paying tribute to Ambedkar as a great human being. He also announced the establishment of a permanent fund of Rs. 51 crores in Ambedkar’s name. The fund will be used to present awards to those who have made outstanding contributions to the country.

KCR expressed his desire for a political landscape in which people emerge victorious and reminded the gathering that the Telangana Secretariat has been named after Ambedkar and will be inaugurated on the 30th of this month. He added that Telangana state itself was born from Ambedkar’s inspiration.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, which will provide financial assistance to 25 lakh families annually. He hopes to win the 2024 elections and expressed his desire for Hyderabad to be established as the second capital city of India.

Prakash Ambedkar proposed the idea, citing his grandfather’s statements from the Constituent Assembly debates, where Dr. Ambedkar expressed the need for India to have another capital city. He urged the Telangana government to pursue this proposal, stating that the current situation in the country is favorable for it.
