“Shakuntalam” had been one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and finally, it was released yesterday. Directed by Gunashekar and starring Samantha, the film had a lot of expectations riding on it. Sadly, it fails to deliver on most of them.
The movie is based on a well-known story, but other than Samantha’s performance, nothing seems to work out. The graphics are not up to the mark, and the slow-paced narration tests the patience of the audience. Even Samantha’s dubbing feels lackluster, which is a shame.

However, the production values are impressive, and the Mallika song is a standout.
If you’re a die-hard fan of Samantha or Gunashekar, then you might want to give this movie a watch. Otherwise, it’s just an average movie that you can skip.
In conclusion, “Shakuntalam” falls short of the expectations and fails to make a mark. The poor graphics, slow narration, and predictable storyline are major drawbacks. It’s a one-time watchable movie, with Samantha being the only saving grace.
Rating: 2/5 stars.
