Hyderabad, April 20:Oggudolu, a rural art form from Telangana, is gaining global popularity and creating a new trend with its unique attire and captivating performances. The Oggudolu art form, which was once limited to rural areas, is now becoming a universal culture and is filling the craze among cricket audiences worldwide.

The legacy of PadmaShri Chukka Sattiah, who won hearts with his oggu katha and received the Padma Shri award, is being continued by his grandson Ustad Oggu Ravi. Ravi is leading the charge in introducing Oggudolu to a global audience, and the art form is quickly becoming a popular craze among the youth.

In the world-famous game of cricket, the T20 IPL2023 matches, Oggudolu is making its presence felt. In the past, when batsmen hit sixes and fours, cheer girls would dance to entertain the audience. Now, a new trend has emerged, with Oggudolu artists replacing cheer girls to encourage the team players.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, a cricket team in the IPL, has given Oggudolu artists an opportunity to perform in the ongoing 16th season of the tournament. Instead of cheer girls, 20 artists from Telangana are performing Oggudolu in the cricket stadium, creating a new attraction for IPL matches.

Under the leadership of renowned artist Ustad Oggu Ravi, the Oggudolu performance is rocking the stadium. Recently, during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Uppal Stadium, one of the artists performed stunts with their Oggudo and impressed the audience as well as the TV viewers.

From the time the team wins the toss to the end of the match, the artists play their drums with special tones, and the audience and players also dance to their rhythm. Unlike the cheer girls’ dances, the Oggudolu performance is creating a craze among the audience and is quickly becoming a popular trend.

In the past, Oggudolu was limited to rural areas, and performances were only seen during festivals and fairs. However, with the introduction of the art form in cricket stadiums, it is now becoming a universal culture.

Ustad Oggu Ravi, an artist leading the Oggudolu movement, expressed his gratitude to the government and Sunrisers Hyderabad management for giving them the opportunity to perform their art form in the IPL. He also highlighted the legacy of Chukka Sattaiah, who brought awareness among the people on many issues through his oggukatha.

The introduction of Oggudolu in the IPL is a case study of how rural art forms can gain global popularity and become a universal culture. It also shows how sports can be used as a platform to promote and preserve traditional art forms and bring them to a wider audience.
