Hyderabad, April 24: Y. S. Vijayamma, the mother of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, reportedly slapped a woman constable on Monday, just a few hours after her daughter and YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) leader Y. S. Sharmila manhandled police personnel.
The incident occurred when Vijayamma went to the Jubilee Hills police station to meet Sharmila, who had been arrested earlier. However, the police refused her entry, leading to an argument between Vijayamma and the police. When some female police officers attempted to force her into her vehicle, Vijayamma resisted and reportedly slapped a constable.
Police eventually managed to push her back into her vehicle and send her back to her residence. Vijayamma, the widow of former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, questioned the police’s decision to arrest Sharmila, claiming that she was merely raising her voice for the people. Vijayamma also stated that she plans to approach the court regarding the police’s actions.
In a separate incident, Sharmila allegedly slapped a police woman and pushed a male police officer outside her residence at Lotus Pond in Jubilee Hills. The police arrested and took her to the Jubilee Hills police station. Videos of the YSRTP leader arguing with police personnel and manhandling them went viral on social media.
Although the video did not show Sharmila slapping the woman constable, the policewoman was seen holding her cheek. The incident occurred when police attempted to prevent Sharmila from leaving her house to meet the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is investigating the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak case.
The police have informed Vijayamma that a case has been registered against Sharmila at the Banjara Hills police station.
