Hyderabad to Host G20 Agriculture Ministerial Meeting with a Focus on Sustainable Agriculture

Hyderabad, India – The Agriculture Working Group (AWG) is set to convene in Hyderabad for its Ministerial Meeting, a three-day event scheduled from June 15th to 17th, 2023. Over 200 delegates from G20 member countries, invited nations, and International Organizations will gather to discuss key issues in agriculture. Esteemed Agriculture Ministers from various countries and Director Generals from International Organizations will grace the event.

The Ministerial Meeting will kick off on day one with the inauguration of a grand exhibition by the Honorable Minister of State, MoA&FW, Shri Kailash Choudhary. The exhibition will highlight India’s notable achievements in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. Following the inauguration, the Agriculture Deputies Meeting (ADM) will take place. The second half of the day will feature two side events: “Managing Agribusiness for Profit, People, and Planet” and “Connecting the Digitally Disconnected: Harnessing the Power of Digital Technologies in Agriculture.” These events will witness participation from leading Indian agriculture-based companies, start-ups, and central and state government agencies involved in the promotion of agribusiness enterprises.

On the second day of the meeting, the Honorable Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, will extend a warm welcome to the Ministers and Heads of Delegations attending the G20 meeting. The day’s ministerial engagements will encompass discussions on “Sustainable Agriculture for Food Security and Nutrition” and a High-level Ministerial Discussion on women-led agriculture, sustainable biodiversity, and climate solutions. These discussions will take place simultaneously in three parallel sessions.

The third and final day of the Ministers’ meeting will culminate with the adoption of the outcomes of the Agriculture Working Group under the Indian Presidency of the G20. Following this, the delegation will embark on a technical excursion to the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) in Hyderabad.

The Ministerial Meeting promises to be a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and innovative approaches in the field of agriculture. With a focus on sustainable agriculture, the event aims to address crucial issues related to food security, nutrition, agribusiness, digital technologies, and the empowerment of women in agriculture. Hyderabad, renowned for its contributions to the agricultural sector, is poised to provide an ideal setting for this significant gathering of global agricultural leaders.
