Hyderabad, June 26: Uppal Junction, known as one of the busiest junctions in the area, has long posed difficulties for pedestrians trying to reach their bus stops amidst the bustling traffic. However, this issue is about to be resolved as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has undertaken an innovative project to construct the first-ever skywalk in Telangana. The skywalk aims to connect six different locations around the junction and provide convenient access to the neighboring schools, business areas, residential areas, sports stadium, and the metro station.

The skywalk, spanning a length of 660 meters, is intelligently designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. It consists of sections with varying heights, measuring 3m, 4m, and 6m respectively. The structure is predominantly constructed using a mild steel sub-structure, while the deck features sturdy railings and fabric roofing at strategic points.

To ensure public convenience, the skywalk is equipped with six hop stations that are accessible through staircases and elevators. This thoughtful inclusion caters to individuals of all ages and physical abilities. With the completion of this ambitious project, pedestrians will now be able to traverse the junction safely and peacefully, avoiding the challenges they previously faced.

The entire project has been executed within a budget of Rs. 25.00 crores, showcasing the HMDA’s commitment to improving the infrastructure and quality of life in the region. To mark this significant achievement, the honorable Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, KT Rama Rao, is scheduled to inaugurate the skywalk on June 26, 2023. This event will not only celebrate the successful completion of the project but also highlight the government’s dedication to enhancing public transportation facilities and promoting pedestrian safety.
