Chandra Sekhara Reddy Engaged as Senior Advisor in EESL, Delhi

Hyderabad, July 12, 2023 – The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has appointed A Chandra Sekhara Reddy as Senior Advisor for Business Development and Government Affairs. Reddy, who served in the Andhra Pradesh power sector for three decades, including nine years in the Chief Minister’s Office, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

As the Senior Advisor with headquarters in Hyderabad, Reddy will be responsible for business development activities and identifying new opportunities in South India. He will engage with local and state departments, federal legislative bodies, and government agencies to represent and protect EESL’s business plans and interests. Reddy expressed his gratitude to Vishal Kapoor, the CEO of EESL, for providing him with the opportunity to work with such a prestigious organization recognized globally for its expertise in energy efficiency.

During his tenure as CEO of the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), Andhra Pradesh received national awards five times, including the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award-2022 presented by the Honorable President of India for outstanding performance in achieving energy savings. Reddy played a crucial role in identifying over 30 energy efficiency investment projects worth Rs. 412 Crore in Andhra Pradesh.

Under Reddy’s leadership, SECM advocated for interest subvention for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to implement energy efficiency projects. The Government of India is currently examining the provision of 5% interest subvention for MSMEs based on the proposals put forth by Reddy in national and international platforms. His efforts also contributed to the establishment of Energy Conservation cells and the promotion of energy conservation and efficiency programs in the state.

In his new role, Reddy requested the Government of Telangana and key departments to continue supporting EESL in achieving economic and energy savings, as well as addressing climate change. The Street Lighting National Program (SLNP), launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, has been successful, particularly in cities like Hyderabad. Through collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), EESL estimates that installing 5.3 lakh LED street lights will result in savings of approximately 227 MU. This initiative will also lead to an annual reduction of 0.18 million tons of CO2 emissions and avoid a peak demand of around 56.75 MW.

EESL’s efforts have extended to distributing LED bulbs under Gram UJALA in rural areas, and Telangana’s Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) is considered one of the best models at the national level. Overall, EESL’s distribution of LED bulbs, tube lights, and energy-efficient fans has resulted in significant energy savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and substantial monetary savings for consumers across the country.

Chandra Sekhara Reddy’s appointment as Senior Advisor in EESL reinforces the organization’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and furthering its mission of economic development and environmental protection.
