Determination Defying Poverty: Saake Bharti Receives PhD in Chemistry Amidst Admiration
Anantapur, July 18: The campus of Sri Krishna Devaraya University witnessed an extraordinary graduation ceremony yesterday, as Saake Bharti, a woman of indomitable spirit, received her PhD degree in Chemistry. The ceremony, attended by AP Governor Justice Abdul Nazir in his capacity as Chancellor, was filled with awe-inspiring moments that left the audience enthralled.
The stage exuded an ethereal ambiance, bathed in green lights, but what captivated everyone’s attention was not just the grandeur, but the incredible journey of Saake Bharti. Rather than a girl in modern attire, Bharti stepped onto the stage with her husband and daughter, dressed humbly in a plain saree and worn-out Hawaiian sandals.
Her appearance belied the remarkable achievement she held in her hands – a PhD degree, the symbol of her relentless pursuit of knowledge. Hailing from the remote village of Nagulaguddam in Shinganamala mandal, Anantapur district, Bharti shattered barriers and proved that poverty could not deter her from realizing her dreams.
As a daily laborer, Bharti faced numerous challenges, juggling her work and studies with admirable dedication. Her academic journey began in the local government school, and she went on to complete her intermediate education at Pamidi Junior College. Despite her family’s financial struggles, she persisted in her pursuit of higher education.
Her husband, Shivprasad, understood her aspirations and encouraged her to pursue her studies further. With unwavering support from him, Bharti completed her graduation and post-graduation at SSBN College, Anantapur. Balancing the responsibilities of her studies and raising her daughter, Gayatri, Bharti toiled through nights, fighting exhaustion to chase her academic goals.
To attend college, Bharti had to travel 28 kilometers, an expense she could ill afford. Undeterred, she walked eight kilometers to Garladinne and then boarded a bus to reach her college. Despite the financial constraints and taxing circumstances, Bharti excelled in her studies, impressing her teachers and family alike.
Her determination and brilliance caught the attention of Professor Dr. MCS Shubha, who offered Bharti the opportunity to conduct research on ‘Binary Mixtures’ for her PhD. The stipend she received helped ease the financial burden, but Bharti continued to work diligently, aiming to secure a better future for her family.
The celebration at her workplace, where fellow laborers gathered to cheer her on, was a testament to Bharti’s humility and the affection she garnered from her community. Her story has become an inspiration for others, proving that with tenacity and passion, anyone can achieve greatness.
