New Delhi, September 21: The ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada, which has the potential to affect business relations between the two nations, has prompted a response from Nasscom, the apex body of the Indian IT industry. Nasscom assured that it remains in close contact with its members in Canada and stands ready to provide support to IT and tech companies if necessary.

In light of New Delhi’s suspension of visa services for Canadian citizens “till further notice,” Nasscom is closely monitoring the situation. The organization stated, “We are in close touch with our members in Canada, and as per their feedback, there are no immediate areas of concern.” However, given the evolving nature of the situation, Nasscom emphasized its commitment to engaging with stakeholders to identify and address any potential areas of impact.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified the government’s stance on visa services in response to recent tensions. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi explained, “Regarding the travel advisory issued by Canada for traveling to India, the issue is not about travel to India. Those who have valid visas and OCIs are free to travel to India. The issue is the incitement of violence, inaction by Canadian authorities, and the creation of an environment that disrupts the functioning of our consulates, which is what is making us temporarily stop the issuance of visa services. We will review this situation on a regular basis.”

The situation remains dynamic, and stakeholders are closely monitoring developments to assess any potential consequences on business relations between India and Canada.
