New Delhi, September 21: With diplomatic relations between India and Canada showing signs of further deterioration, domestic IT companies, particularly those with a substantial presence in Canada, are proceeding with caution, adopting a “wait and watch” approach.

While Nasscom, the apex body of the IT industry, has stated that there is currently “no immediate cause for concern,” IT companies, including startups, are exercising prudence given the circumstances.

The suspension of visa services for Canadians by India “till further notice” has heightened the concerns of these companies. Industry experts are expressing apprehensions that the ongoing diplomatic standoff could potentially delay new business agreements and the mobility of professionals between the two nations. They emphasize the critical importance of a “favorable political climate” for business growth.

Prominent Indian IT companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, and Wipro have made substantial investments in Canada and maintain a significant presence there.

Infosys, for instance, has established centers in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. In July, the company further expanded its Canadian footprint by launching Infosys Public Services Canada, headquartered in Ottawa. This subsidiary, spanning over 10,000 square feet, is part of Infosys’ commitment to increasing its employee count from over 7,000 to 8,000 employees by 2024.

Wipro Limited, a leading technology services and consulting company, announced the opening of the Wipro-AWS Launch Pad Center in Toronto earlier this year. This center enables Canadian customers to expedite their transition to cloud-based solutions and build cutting-edge solutions by leveraging Wipro and AWS expertise.

TCS, with teams across the US and Canada, boasts a workforce of over 53,000 versatile and highly skilled professionals. They play a pivotal role in helping nearly half of the Fortune 500 companies realize their objectives, as stated on the company’s website.
