Hyderabad’s Tallest Ganesh Idol Begins Grand Immersion Journey in Hussain Sagar Lake
Hyderabad, September 28 – Amidst tight security, the 63-foot-tall Ganesh idol of Hyderabad commenced its journey for immersion in the Hussain Sagar lake, a pivotal moment in the annual immersion procession.

The colossal idol, affectionately known as the Khairatabad Ganesh, embarked on its journey from Khairatabad at 7 a.m. today. The immersion is expected to take place between 12 noon and 2 p.m. This iconic idol is widely recognized as one of the tallest Ganesh idols in the country.

The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, in collaboration with local authorities and the police, meticulously arranged for the seamless transportation of the idol to the immersion site.
After the final puja held around midnight, workers spent nearly six hours moving the idol from its platform to a specially designed Tusker vehicle.
Hundreds of devotees joined the procession, which traversed through Telephone Bhavan and Secretariat to reach NTR Marg. A heavy crane was strategically placed to assist in the immersion process.
Transporting and immersing the Khairatabad Ganesh is an enormous task that requires dedicated efforts from the police, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and various other departments.
Minister for Animal Husbandry T. Srinivas Yadav, along with several political leaders and officials, participated in the procession.

Khairatabad Ganesh boasts a history of nearly 70 years. The organizers initially installed a one-foot idol in 1954, and since then, its height has increased by one foot each year. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, organizers installed a one-foot idol, deviating from their initial plan to create a 66-foot idol.
Khairatabad Ganesh is a prominent highlight of Hyderabad’s annual celebrations. The State Governor, ministers, and other dignitaries traditionally perform puja at this idol to inaugurate the festival.

For ten days, thousands of devotees from Hyderabad and beyond offer their prayers to the Khairatabad Ganesh. Each year, organizers present the idol with a unique theme and appearance. This year’s theme was ‘Sri Dasha Maha Vidya Ganapathi,’ with ‘Sri Veerabhadra Swamy’ placed on the right side and ‘Sri Panchamukha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy’ on the left.
The grand immersion of Hyderabad’s Khairatabad Ganesh marks the culmination of a revered tradition, drawing thousands of devotees to witness this iconic event.
