Hyderabad City Police Annual Report Reveals Alarming Crime Statistics

In the recently released annual report by the Hyderabad City Police, a concerning rise in various crime categories has been highlighted. The overall crime rate has increased by 2 percent compared to the previous year, with notable spikes in cybercrime, attacks on women, and other offenses.

Cybercrime saw an alarming 11 percent surge, resulting in 2735 registered cases and a staggering Rs.133.60 crore in reported cyber robbery. Attacks on women recorded a 12 percent increase, with a specific rise of 19 percent in rape cases, reaching a total of 403 incidents. Tragically, 31 individuals took their own lives due to dowry harassment.

Physical assault cases witnessed a significant uptick, rising by 39 percent from 368 to 513 incidents. Property crimes also experienced a 9 percent increase, totaling 3361 cases. Financial crimes were not spared either, with 5684 registrations reported.

The police report also shed light on drug-related issues, with 243 cases registered and 740 arrests made. Furthermore, 37,866 cases of drunken driving were documented, resulting in fines amounting to Rs.8.22 crores. Impressively, 3,782 individuals were jailed, and 556 driving licenses were suspended as part of the enforcement measures.

In the realm of traffic violations, a staggering 47,25,089 cases were registered, contributing to a fine collection of Rs.71.69 crores from 24,43,296 cases. Road safety concerns were highlighted by 2312 reported road accidents, claiming the lives of 287 individuals, including 121 pedestrians.

Noteworthy is the emphasis on enforcing traffic rules, as evidenced by the registration of 18,33,761 helmet-related and 53,456 cell phone driving cases.

The Hyderabad City Police are actively addressing these challenges, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

Hyderabad City Police Releases 2023 Annual Round-Up: Crime Trends and Enforcement Highlights

Friday, the Commissioner of Police, K. Srinivas Reddy IPS, unveiled the comprehensive 2023 Annual Round-Up booklet at the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) in Banjara Hills. During the media briefing, Commissioner Reddy shared key insights into the city’s law and order situation.

In a detailed overview, Commissioner Reddy stated that the overall crime rate in Hyderabad increased by 2% compared to 2022. Notably, bodily crime cases surged by 16%, with grave bodily crimes witnessing a substantial 39% increase, and non-bodily crime cases rising by 12%. Property crimes saw a 9% uptick, while crimes against women and children under POCSO increased by 12% each.

In the realm of cybercrime, Hyderabad experienced an 11% rise. The Hyderabad-Narcotics Enforcement Wing reported significant seizures, including 1761 kgs of ganja, 629 grams of MDMA, and 121.8 grams of cocaine by the Hyderabad-New unit.

Despite these challenges, the city witnessed a remarkable 70% reduction in road accidents. Additionally, property recovery efforts saw a positive trend, marking a 17% increase compared to 2022.

The annual round-up reflects the dedicated efforts of the Hyderabad City Police in maintaining public safety and enforcing the law, even in the face of evolving challenges.
