In a significant development, the embankment of the Nizamsagar main canal ruptured in Nizamabad district’s Armur town center early Monday morning. This breach resulted in water flooding into the adjacent journalist’s colony, prompting residents to evacuate their homes as a safety measure. The deluge caused electricity poles to collapse, leading to a disruption in power supply to the area. Local residents expressed outrage, attributing the canal’s failure to the alleged negligence of irrigation authorities. Officials are urgently coordinating relief efforts to address the situation. It has been reported that despite the necessity of regular canal maintenance during water release operations, authorities in the Armur region purportedly overlooked this crucial task, allowing the canal to deteriorate and accumulate debris. Furthermore, locals contend that the canal’s structural failure can be directly linked to inadequate upkeep practices. The Nizamsagar project officials had reportedly released water into the canal to meet both drinking water and irrigation needs, exacerbating the situation. Efforts are underway to ascertain the extent of damage and prevent further repercussions.
