Telangana Government Initiates Paddy Procurement for Rabi Season 2023-24

The Telangana government has announced the commencement of paddy procurement operations for the Rabi season of 2023-24. With preparations in full swing, several procurement centers have already begun operations across various districts. This season, the government aims to establish 7149 procurement centers, a significant increase from the previous year’s 7037.
A target of 75.4 LMT (Lakh Metric Tonnes) of paddy procurement has been set, marking an increase from the 66.84 LMT procured in the last Rabi season. Farmers are urged to sell their produce directly at these centers, ensuring fair compensation at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 2183 for Common Paddy and Rs. 2203 for Grade A paddy, as per government guidelines.
To prevent exploitation by middlemen, strict instructions have been issued to procurement center officials to ensure adherence to MSP regulations. Additionally, measures are in place to ensure that paddy is procured at the correct weight without any unauthorized deductions.
Rice millers and traders have been sternly warned against purchasing paddy below the MSP, with strict actions promised for any deviations from the prescribed regulations.
Notably, the procurement process began earlier this season, with special permission obtained from the Government of India. As of March 30th, 121 MT of paddy has already been procured, indicating an efficient start to the procurement operations.
