
Avocado Awareness Programme Cultivated by Telangana State Horticultural University in Hyderabad

Hyderabad witnessed an insightful Avocado awareness program organized by the Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University (SKLTSHU) in collaboration with IG Deccan Exotics. Held at the College of Horticulture, Rajendranagar, the event aimed to enhance scientific knowledge and awareness while addressing challenges in Avocado cultivation.
The program commenced with the University song followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Dr. A. Kiran Kumar, Director of Research, delivered the welcome note and inaugurated the ceremony. Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Neeraja Prabhakar emphasized the significance of Avocado fruit, particularly highlighting its health benefits for pregnant women in enhancing ovarian development and providing essential nutrients.

Dr. Prabhakar shared her personal experience of cultivating Avocado trees over two decades, reminiscing about her visit to HRS, TKD, Kodaikanal in 2022, which inspired her to initiate research-based cultivation at Fruit Research Station (FRS), Sangareddy. She introduced various avocado varieties such as Hars, Aelen, TKD-1, Arka Coorg Ravaind, and Arka Supreme.
Speakers delved into the history and introduction of Avocado cultivation in India, discussing its global industry opportunities. They also shed light on the current scenario of Indian-grown Avocados, focusing on West Indian Races.
