HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY28
On Tuesday, Prabhakar Rao, the CMD of Transco and Genco, announced that the electricity consumption in Telangana has increased by 30% compared to last year. The state recorded its highest power consumption in history, with a peak demand of 14794MW. Rao revealed that they were able to supply 290 million units of electricity across the state.
Rao also stated that the demand for 16,000MW of power, along with 300 million units, is expected to come in the state in the coming days. He added that 30% of the electricity supply is consumed by the agricultural sector, while 20% is used by industries.
Despite spending Rs. 1000 crores on electricity supply, the electricity should have come from NTPC a year ago, but it has not yet been received. To address this issue, Telangana is buying electricity from the National Energy Exchange and supplying it to consumers without any problems, even though it is a financial burden for the DISCOMs.
Rao assured that they have no problem with money and that they will supply continuous quality electricity to consumers as per CM KCR’s orders. He stated that govt will give support, we will supply quality electricity to consumers regardless of the cost. To provide quality electricity during the summer season, many decisions have been taken as part of the agreement, and all necessary arrangements will be made to ensure continuous electricity.
