Vizag:In a major breakthrough, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Visakhapatnam intercepted a person at Srikakulam Railway Station who arrived from Kolkata by Train No. 12839 Chennai Mail on March 9, 2023. Acting on specific intelligence, the officers apprehended the individual who was accompanied by a recipient on the railway platform.

During the search, the DRI officials found 8 bars of smuggled gold weighing 7.396 kilograms with a purity of 99.9% and a 24-carat value of Rs. 4.21 crore in the inner zip lining pocket of the arrived person’s trolley bag. It was discovered that the gold was smuggled from Bangladesh and melted/recast into bars in Kolkata.

Both individuals were taken into custody and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are trying to uncover more information about the smuggling network. This operation is a significant success in the fight against smuggling and illegal trade in the region.
