Chennai, April 9: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Theppakadu Elephant Camp located in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. During his visit, he had a pleasant interaction with the mahout couple, Bomman and Bellie, who featured in the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. He praised the couple for their caring attitude towards the elephants Reghu and Bommi, as depicted in the documentary.

The Prime Minister arrived at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp via road from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. He spent a considerable amount of time conversing with the mahouts, kavadis, and other elephant caregivers present at the camp. Additionally, he also fed sugarcane to the elephants in the camp.

After the interaction with the mahouts, kavadis, and captive elephants, the Prime Minister departed for Mysore. Strict security arrangements were in place during his visit to the camp, with a large number of Tamil Nadu police and Central forces deployed due to intelligence reports of Maoist presence in the Masanagudi area.
