HEADQUARTERS MALKANGIRI SECTOR: RECOVERY OF IED
MALKANGIRI, May 14: In a successful operation conducted by the 142nd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), a significant discovery was made on May 13, 2023, in the Sudhakonta-Amapadar area, within the jurisdiction of GP Telarai, under the limits of PS MV-79, Malkangiri District. Acting on specific intelligence, the BSF team unearthed an improvised explosive device (IED) strategically hidden under a tree near a culvert along the road leading to the uphill region of the Bejangiwada Reserve Forest area. This region had previously been heavily infested by Maoist insurgents, who often planted IEDs along potential routes to target security forces and law enforcement personnel.

During the search operation, the BSF team successfully recovered an armed IED, which consisted of a steel tiffin box with an approximate capacity of 3 liters. The IED was armed with a single electric detonator. Additionally, a length of electric wire measuring 20 feet was also found in close proximity to the explosive device.
The bomb disposal team from the BSF Sector Headquarters in Malkangiri promptly demolished the IED at the location where it was discovered, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.
BSF continues to actively collaborate with the Odisha Police in their efforts to establish dominance and security in the Malkangiri district. The recovery of this armed IED during an ongoing Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) is expected to significantly demoralize the Maoist sympathizers operating in the area. Moreover, it will serve as a strong motivating factor for the security forces to intensify their operations and maintain an active presence in the region.
