New Delhi, September 10: In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially closed the New Delhi G20 leaders’ Summit on Sunday, symbolically passing the presidency gavel to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Brazil is set to assume the G20 presidency for the next year.

Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism that Brazil’s presidency would propel the G20 towards advancing the common agenda of the group. He extended his congratulations to the Brazilian president on this occasion.

During his address to mark the conclusion of the G20 Summit, PM Modi stated, “As you all know, India has held the responsibility of G20 presidency until November 2023. Over these two days, you have provided valuable suggestions and presented proposals. It is our responsibility to review the suggestions we have received to accelerate their progress. I propose that, by the end of November, we convene a virtual session of the G20.”

He further elaborated, “During this virtual session, we can reevaluate the topics deliberated upon during this Summit. I hope all of you will participate in this virtual session. With this, I declare the conclusion of the G20 Summit.”

India assumed the G20 presidency from Indonesia during the Bali Summit last year.

Notable highlights of India’s G20 presidency include efforts to enhance financial inclusion, strengthen digital public infrastructure, expand multilateral development banks (MDBs) for emerging economies, amplify the voices of the Global South, and ensure environmental sustainability.
